Chicken Crescent Squares

Chicken Crescent Squares

by my mom (Ro Irwin)

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cooking Time: 25 minutes

Makes: 4 servings (I double for my family, but the recipe below is for 4)

4 oz cream cheese, softened
3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted & divided (2 Tbsp + 1 Tbsp)
2 cups cooked chopped chicken
¼ tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
2 Tbsp. milk
1 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
1 – 8 oz can crescent rolls
¾ cup croutons, crushed

Directions:  Preheat oven to 350.

In medium bowl, blend cream cheese & 2 Tbsp butter until smooth.   Add next 5 ingredients & mix well.  Separate crescent rolls into 4 rectangles.   Press together perforations to seal.  Spoon ½ cup mixture into center of each rectangle.  Pull 4 corners together & twist slightly.  Seal edges.  Brush top with reserved butter, & sprinkle with crushed croutons.  Bake 20 – 25 minutes until browned.

I think my mom used green onions and I think I like that better.  Also, I tried many times to replicate my mom’s work and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong, until I watched her prepare it.  She throws the filling mixture into the FOOD PROCESSOR.  I don’t know why, but it seems to make a big difference.  It really blends it all together so much better.
